Welcome to Career Genie. I’m Ralph Snider, Principal Consultant. I help people to find work.
My story:
After my IT position was made redundant I attended a Career Transition programme where I learned job seeking skills. In the early 2000’s there weren’t many IT jobs around. I was looking through the job ads section in the newspaper when I saw an ad for an Employment Consultant. I thought ‘I can do that’. I spoke with someone who suggested working in Disability Employment Services (DES). I managed to get a part time job helping support people who were already working.
I really felt responsible, as I was helping people with a major part of their lives, so I read about a dozen books on finding work, just to make sure I knew my stuff. Later I worked for a number of companies who assisted people to find work.
Out of interest I completed a Graduate Diploma in Career Education and Development. This enabled me to work in the Occupational Rehabilitation industry assisting people in WorkCover and with the Transport Accident Commission to find work. Updating labour market and industry information on myfuture, Australia’s careers website enabled me to become one of fifteen facilitators of the ‘Where the jobs are’ labour market information workshops on behalf of the Career Development Association of Australia (CDAA).

At careers expos I regularly perform career and resume checks on behalf of the CDAA, as well as give my ‘How to find work’ presentation. Finally, I set up a business to help people identify what they are doing wrong with their job searching. I presented a workshop at the 2016 CDAA Annual Conference and had an article published in the Australian Career Practitioner magazine. My published book "How to find a job" contains everything you need to know about finding work.
